Digital Records

In 2021, Berkeley Burial Committee started a project to bring the records of the cemetery into the 21st century.

Our Mission

The cemetery has records dating back to the early 1800’s. Any searches for graves took hours, and often resulted in ambiguous answers.

So we decided that we needed to transform the old paper records and maps into digital, searchable databases that can be used online for anyone who needs them.

“What used to take hours, now is only a matter of minutes.”

What We’ve Achieved

  • Collation of all burial records

  • Professional digital scanning

  • Transcription of records

  • Data entry of transcribed records into a searchable spreadsheet

  • Digital scan of maps

  • Creation of new website

  • Publicly available records

  • Allows users to search online at their convenience

We have made the digitised maps and registers available for free download. There is currently no ability to automatically search for entries online. The current process will require you to download the spreadsheets and maps, and manually search them. We are looking at creating a more automated system, but this is a longer term project.
